Bookpile turns books you find on TikTok and Instagram into a personal reading pile. This policy explains what data the app handles.

What stays on your device

Your pile (saved books, reading status, progress, and personal ratings) is stored locally on your device by default. Without an account, nothing is uploaded to us.

Optional account & social features

If you sign in with Apple, Bookpile creates an account so your pile can sync across devices and so you can use friends and buddy-read features. In that case we store on our servers (Supabase, hosted in the EU):

• your account identifier and chosen @handle (no email is required to be shown to other users; Sign in with Apple lets you hide yours),
• a lean copy of your pile (book id, title, status, rating) for sync and — only where you allow it — for friends to see,
• your friend connections and buddy-read sessions.

You can delete your account and all server-side data at any time in Settings → Delete account.

What is sent when you share a video

When you share a TikTok/Instagram link into Bookpile, that link, the post's public caption, and its public thumbnail image are sent to third-party services solely to recognise the book and fetch its details:

• TikTok / Instagram public endpoints — to read the post's caption and thumbnail.
• Apify — fallback scraping when the quick endpoint fails.
• Google Gemini — to read the book title and author from the caption and cover image.
• Open Library — to fetch book metadata and covers. (Google Books may be queried as a search fallback; its results are not stored.)

These requests contain the shared link, caption, and thumbnail — not your identity.

Advertising

Bookpile shows ads via Google AdMob. To do this, AdMob may access your device's advertising identifier and similar data to serve and measure ads. On first launch the app asks for your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt; if you decline, ads are served without that identifier. See Google's policy for how AdMob handles data.

Analytics

Bookpile includes no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs beyond the advertising described above.

Children

Bookpile is not directed at children under 13.

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
